Market Snapshot 01/09/2025 – Equity Markets Are Closed

Good Thursday AM from your Hometown Lender,

The equity markets are closed today, and the bond market closes shortly with the national day of mourning for President Carter.

There is no data today and even if there was, the story of the day would be the Los Angeles wildfires. The wildfires are devastating (my daughter had to evacuate last night) and have almost no containment. They are set to be the costliest in U.S. history, analysts said Thursday, as the first initial estimates of damage from the infernos soared with their unchecked spread.

Total economic losses from the fires are now pegged at close to $50 billion, double the estimate of a day earlier, according to JPMorgan. That includes insured losses which he estimated at more than $20 billion and even more if the fires are not controlled. We are keeping everyone impacted in our thoughts and prayers.

Stay safe and make today great!!!
